The Capital City
Dawn’s Break is the thriving capital city to the north of the Shining Vale, and has been established for centuries. This capital is helmed by King Rickard Ontaris, his wife, Queen Almaris, and the Dawnbreakers, the royal army. The army is commanded by Lord Commander Niklim Vyggar.
The King has been in rule for the last 40 years and had succeeded his father, King Algoram Ontaris. During the reign of King Rickard things have been mostly peaceful, aside from the Great Blacktide War that had happened about 18 years prior.
During the Great Blacktide War, civilization itself was threatened by an insurmountable army of demons, liches, giants, and even dragons, all under the lead of the terrible sorcerer Salvum. King Rickard led a massive army across Blacktide Bay directly into the capital of the Barren Lands and emerged victorious, returning with a large amount of gold, priceless gems, and many other spoils of war. It also gave the Kingdom sole claim to the great mine in the Mukrom Mountains, which is now the sole supplier of the iron and precious adamantine that adorns the Dawnbreaker’s signature armor.
At sunrise every morning the peak of the castle is the first thing that the sun touches. It is adorned in such a way that the sun reflects from the tall spire, cascading the town with a prismatic light. Such a sight to see if you are new to the city. The light refracts to all of the city, except for the slums. The people of the slums are looked down on based on their race and lack of nobility. There are mostly Tiefling found in the slums, and sadly never make their way out. They are loathed due to their demonic appearance, the gods that they worship, and the fact that they are often tied to the Crown’s enemy in the Barren Lands. Though this is not necessarily the case, no one seems to try to correct the foul treatment of their fellow citizens. As for the rest of the city, it is chock full of Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Dwarves, Aasimar, and more! 15,000-20,000 people in total.
As far as the shopping goes, there are too many shops and stores to mention but if there is something you are looking for, I can assure you that you will find it. Amenities are a dime a dozen, and there are items and exotic dishes spanning from all over the 6 regions. There are ships coming and going from the port in the Shining Ocean all day and night. No ships can head toward the Blacktide Bay, though, as it has been forbidden since the Great Blacktide War.
To the northeast passing from the capital are the King’s Mine tucked away in the Mukrom Mountains.
To the west are the training fields, the Forest of Djin, and the beginning of the Murkwurm Mountains.
The Murkworm Mountains once had a mine that also provided iron and adamantine to the capitol, but around 50 years ago the contract had expired and no negotiation was ever re-established.
